The Chine is worth a visit!
The Chine is worth a visit! The ticket gives unlimited access for seven days. We took advantage of this and visited on three occasisons from top to bottom, and then in reverse! We were there mid may, and the Chine closed at 9pm, so it was too light for the illuminations to be seen at their best. But it was still a pleasant walk. Public transport is excellent from Shanklin and all the drivers we encountered were very friendly and helpful! We only had time for a brief exploration of the coastal paths, but the views are stunning!

It depends on what you like.
It depends on what you like. For me it is a typical Victorian seaside town, and the types of facilities on the seafront reflect this. Certainly it has much of what a family is looking for regarding entertainment, although some of the hotels did appear a bit run down. From a walking viewpoint it is lovely, although less mobile visitors may find some of the inclines a bit challenging!

A steep walk down to the Promenade which is clean and flat.
A steep walk down to the Promenade which is clean and flat. There is a good clean beach and amusements for children. Lift up and down to the promenade during the day . The old part of the town was worth a visit. Good place to eat with home cooked food and owned by the same family for over 30 years was The village Inn. Town centre a bit run down and typical of seaside town. Lots of pensioners on coach party holidays. Thorougly enjoyed Osborne House , weather permitting you could spend the day there. Due to the cost of the car ferry we will probably not visit the Isle again.

Shanklin and Sandown are beautiful beaches but both towns...
Shanklin and Sandown are beautiful beaches but both towns are dying. Shops empty etc. Parking expensive and a nightmare to find which took a lot of the enjoyment out of the trip. Parking charged 24 hours 7 days a week.
An extremely comfortable bed and breakfast house set in an amazing garden with lots of seating areas to enjoy the flowers and the sun. Several small lounges in addition to the breakfast room. Comfortable, clean bedrooms, Excellent choice of breakfast items which were cooked to order. Friendly and efficient hosts and staff. Located in Shanklin Old Village so very easy to access the beach and coastal path, pubs, cafes, shops and the regular bus services.
Beautiful property, exceptionally clean and comfortable rooms, a very friendly (family run) hotel - I visit the Island every couple of months and this is a 'real find'.
Nice quiet location (a short walk from the Old Village), ample parking and even 2 bus stops (one towards Shanklin/Ryde and the other towards Godshill/Newport) right outside the hotel, if you fancy a day out without the car.
The food was excellent and locally sourced, hosts very welcoming and exactly what we would expect from such a highly rated hotel/BnB. Rosemary and David were fantastic throughout, the little touches are what makes places like these absolutely perfect for a few nights getaway (the Easter egg by the door when we got back to the room was lovely!)
St George's house was an excellent hotel. We really enjoyed our stay. The hosts, Mark and Pearly were very welcoming - extremely nice people. Breakfasts, cooked to order, were brilliant. It was such a treat to enjoy fresh fruit salad each morning. the hotel itself is conveniently located close the the old village and the beach.
Had a lovely 2 night break at this hotel with our two teenagers. Great breakfast and lovely relaxing evenings enjoying a drink in the bar or beautiful gardens. Fantastic location near to the Beach and old village and chine.
Hosts were great and very welcoming and we enjoyed a lovely chat with Nick in the bar.🍓 🍹
It was a good location. It's easy to visit the beach, Shankline Chine, Old Village etc. The staff were very friendly and very helpful. The other 3 bed rooms were fine even though bathrooms do not have a lock. The staff were very friendly and helped with our requests.
We had a lovely stay at Melbourne Ardenlea hotel. We really liked the location of the hotel, a few minutes walking from Shanklin beach and shanklin chine, old village, The breakfast was really nice with good options of cereal and pastries., The room was quite clean.
Hotel is very well situated in the village. Easy to find and to explore from there. Staff very friendly. Gardens are interesting, on a gentle slope and giving space to be outside, in sun or shade whichever is preferred. Terrace with tables outside.
Great location, with fabulous views of the sea (requested sea view). Short walk to high street, Shanklin chine, restaurants, mini golf. Clean basic rooms and bathroom, ideal for those looking for a cheap & cheerful stay in the IOW.
We went to the festival and believe me this far outweighed the other option of camping at the site. We had lovely showers daily and slept like babies. We even went in the refreshing sea of Shanklin bay!
The lady was so lovely to my daughter and I. She even gave her free snacks for the train home.
The hotel was clean, amazing location and wonderful breakfast. Will definitely be back!
Excellent room, clean, comfortable& quiet. Wonderful sea view. The hotel is in an excellent location, and with a bit more TLC and expenditure could be a really nice hotel.
